Description
Bear's Ale House & Eatery, also referred to as Bear's Place Bar, is located in the heart of the University business district on 3rd St. American cuisine and standup comedy on selected evenings. Menu varies widely from typical pub food such as deli sandwiches, burgers, fried food to dinner entrees such as steak or grilled tuna. Salads, loaded baked potatoes and desserts are also available. Entertainment varies depending on the day of the week with stand-up comedy on Monday evenings and Saturdays, Jazz on Thursdays, Live Blues on Fridays and Ryder films on other days of the week. The atmosphere is very much like a pub with a stage area and can be quite noisy and rowdy on some evenings. Specialty drinks include the Hairy Bear and Hairy Beaver.

Bear's Place and Comedy Caravan You can't get better one-night stand up comedy unless you go to Chicago or New York. Seriously. Can't beat the 5$ bear-burger and a side on the Monday night show either. [02 Feb 2004 18:01:12]

Never Seen the Comedy, but... The food could be much better, especially for the price. It's basic bar food - not very vegetarian-friendly, or healthy; I guess it depends on what you're looking for. Whenever I must go there with a group of people I get the hummus/pita order; neither the hummus nor the pita is very good, but it's the best they can give to anyone moderately health-minded. Also, the place could be a lot cleaner. The service can be completely negligent at times, even when they're not busy; when they are busy, they never have enough help. For drinks, it's fine (though expensive). [03 Sep 2004 22:57:52]

So-So Bar Food Not much to say - it's bar food, done no worse or better than you've had at any other bar in any other city in America. Very generous portions, though you do pay for them. Vegetarians are not just limited to hummus and pita, there are veggie burgers and the spicy black bean burger is actually really good. Definitely a fine place to get a non-chain-restaurant burger and a beer. Very true that it's understaffed, which can be damn annoying. I've missed a movie on one occasion and been stuck in the date from neverending hell on another while waiting for the waitress to find her way back to us. Be prepared for the wait if you go, and ask yourself if it's really worth the wait first! (The answer is probably no - you can get a better burger and beer at the Crazy Horse.) [01 Feb 2005 18:30:41]

Go for the Comedy Bear's Place is one of those places that everyone can agree on...as long as it's Comedy Caravan night! The food is okay, but like everyone else said, it's overpriced bar food. The quesadilla is really good and their cheese fries are excellent! We went there last on Halloween and our waitress was downright rude. She obviously had better things to do than wait on us (we were the only people there and we still had to wait forever for her to come to our table). [03 Dec 2007 11:38:28]
