Description
This locally owned and operated steakhouse is known for its casual yet busy atmosphere and trademark decor of IU sports memorabilia. Janko's is probably Bloomington's best-known steakhouse.

Possibly the best steaks in Indiana if not the midwest. On your deathbed, you will lament not having eaten here more often.
The lack of ambiance contributes to the experience. [19 Aug 1999 13:50:19]

The sauteed mushrooms are a must unless you are allergic to spores. They are not on the menu but the server is supposed to ask.
The wine of choice is Egri Bikaver(Bull's Blood), a red wine from Eastern Europe that is perfect for these steaks. [02 Dec 1999 10:06:05]

I'm not even a steak lover! Steak isn't something I normally order, but I have never had a better steak in my life. The tenderness and flavor absolutely cannot be beat. The big sirloins look like thick roasts and melt in your mouth.
The casual, crowded atmosphere, and busy staff only add to this restaurant's eating experience. [21 Oct 2000 12:51:25]

Best Steak of My Life My fiancee took me to Janko's Little Zagreb for our anniversary and ordered the sirloin for two. Chris is a big guy and loves steak. He bypassed the potato and salad that comes with the steak along with my generous portions and we still had a nice sized piece to take home. The steaks are thick and really tender. I recommend ordering the sirloin for two (even though it's not on the menu) because it comes with a HUGE steak and a baked potato and salad for each. [28 Oct 2003 08:46:10]

The truth about Zagrebs I've read too many reviews that are not quite accurate. Contrary to several reviewers, the mushrooms ARE on the menu, and so is the Sirloin For Two. And there are no ONION rolls; only GARLIC rolls. And they are to die for.
Where all reviews agree and are accurate, however, is that this is one of, if not THE, best places for steak. Anywhere! You'll never find a filet so tender and flavorful. The atmosphere is unique and perfect. You've gotta go to understand.
A hidden gem - order the spicy meatballs entree for a table appetizer - and get a side of sour cream to take some of the bite out. [02 Nov 2003 11:07:46]

Agree with the truth... This the best steak I've had anywhere - and I do business travel all over the country and have been to countless fine steak houses. Janko's has yet to be topped. And amen on the spicy meatballs - gotta have 'em. The super filet is *definitely* the way to go. [30 Dec 2003 13:52:31]

A Bloomington Must I have been goingto Little Z's for twenty years. You can't find a better steak anywhere in Indiana including St. Elmos in Indianapolis. The red checkered tablecloths, student-waitresses and down home atmosphere are simply awesome. [22 Feb 2005 13:14:20]

If I want a steak in town There is only one place to go...Janko's. You will never eat a steak at a corporate restaurant again. The Mushroom and Meatball sides are both excellent. As easy as it sounds, and I assure you it is not, make sure you save room for dessert. HOMEMADE CHEESECAKE IS EXCELLENT. (Can't leave my name - work at local restaurant.) Ambiance = IU posters + a picnic, but the food MORE than makes up for it. If they served this food in prison I'd make it a point to get arrested. Even Jared the Subway guy (IU Alum) has been seen eating there. [31 Mar 2005 06:37:12]

T.S. Been here several times for business dinners and with friends. The steaks are good. The ribs are really good (spicy though), but I don't know if I feel as fervently as the other reviewers. It is certainly worth a visit. It's pricey and the decor is kind of campy. It can be particularly crowded and camped (uncomfortably so) during the holidays.
The service is just "okay," nothing exceptional. The staff sure doesn't go out of their way to make you feel "special" for dining there. If you really like meat, you'll probably like this place. [11 Jul 2005 12:29:16]

Great Steak! I will not travel to Bloomington without a visit to Zagreb's. Stacks up against any of the steakhouses in NYC. If you have a big appetite two people should share the steak for three (it is on the menu). [25 Aug 2005 21:45:27]
