Southern French Bistro in South Central Indiana Le Petit Cafe is one of the city's gems. My brother, who spent a year in Nice, France, claims that Le Petit Cafe is absolutely typical. The atmosphere is warehouse-chic, with plants and cheery lighting. The owner and his wife are both chef and server. The menu is printed on a blackboard at the front of the dining area, and consists of a beef, a pork, a poultry, and a fish entree. The vegetables are whatever looks good at the market that day. All entrees are beautifully prepared, and all sauces are wonderfully fresh. The owner often will sit down next to customers to talk. If he suggests a wine with dinner, it's a good idea to take him up on the suggestion! Prices are extremely reasonable for French food--about $14 per person, excluding alcohol and dessert. I wish I could write about the desserts, but serving size is so large that I've never been able to get that far [18 Apr 2001 12:29:57]

Great Restaurant to Introduce French Cuisine I recently went to Le Petit Cafe with my girlfriend and we enjoyed the entire experience. I spent a month in Paris last summer and found the tastes and atmosphere very similar. They may want to consider vegetarian options to their menu in the near future. [24 Jan 2004 21:54:10]

My fave restaurant This place is the best. Super authentic, amazing food, great atmosphere. It's only for the true gourmand, though. If you like to eat in a hurry, go elsewhere. This is a real dining experience. [06 Jan 2007 16:09:38]

Bloomington's Bohemian (and culinary) BEST This place is better than ANYTHING I've tasted, visited, or experienced anywhere NEAR Bloomington! From the sautee-scented lobby to the authentic and unpretentious atmosphere, try anything and everything the chef/owners will bring it to your table. If you have a chance to talk with either of them, talk and talk, and talk, and talk. The restauraunteurs are fascinating, brilliant, and Bohemian-hip-chic. Le Petit Cafe is as fun as it is delicious. Go here as often as you can for a truly wonderful addition to any diner's repertoire of local legends! [29 Nov 2007 19:51:11]
