Puccini's -- Best Italian in town - Indiana Daily Student, BRANDON ZELL , 23 January 1998; The inside of the restaurant resembles a nice Victorian house with little white-clothed tables throughout. The mood is further enhanced by candle lamps on each table instead of overhead lighting. If one brought a date, the setting would surely earn extra brownie points. . . I finally decided on the Scaloppina al Vino Bianco, which was veal sauteed in chardonnay with mushrooms. My waiter also suggested the soup of the day, which consisted of cheese tortilini and vegetables, so I felt adventurous and asked him to bring me some. . . . The soup arrived with some freshly baked bread with a hard crust. It was a pleasing appetizer, which I made short work with a cafe lattŽ to wash it down. The entree was brought forth for my consumption shortly thereafter. The veal was tender and delectable, and it could be sliced at times with the edge of my fork. The mushrooms soaked up the chardonnay like a sponge, which rendered them a little tangy but entirely tasty. After I finished the meal, my waiter brought the check, which was fairly reasonable. . . . - suggest change

Inconsistent food! While the ambience is great and the servers seem to know what they're doing, look nice, and are friendly, I've had great and HORRIBLE experiences here. I once ordered a salad three times because the first time they sent me barbecue sauce (!!!!) instead of balsamic vinaigrette. They then confessed that they were out of balsamic, so I ordered bleu cheese dressing. Well, that tasted like Miracle Whip--something I have no tolerance for. there was no hint of bleu cheese in it anywhere! So I sent it back for a plain salad, which I ate with olive oil. :-( I've also had scary main dish experiences--overly greasy and cold pasta, pasta that had set out and was somewhat hard on the edges. I want very badly to love this restaurant, and I have had good experiences--terrific ravioli and pesto, for instance---but beware.
I also think they could try a little harder with their "Italian" bread, which tastes more like something storebought from Kroger's. [03 Sep 2004 23:48:36]

Wonderful Experience! I ate there for the first time and loved it. It was a special dinner and eating in the back patio was great. The area is surrounded by brick and has lots of plants and ivy on the walls with soft lighting in the plants and a fountain...wonderful ambience. The food was excellent...I had the pasta with vodka sauce and it was extremely good. The waiter was very attentive without being pushy...though we were the only ones eating outside at the time. The only thing was that we didn't get any bread...maybe they just forgot. It was probably just as well, because we were both stuffed at the end. Great restuarant! [16 Jun 2005 20:53:45]

This was the worst ever restaurant I ever visited Food quality was ok but service was horrible. First of all the waiter took down the order incorrectly. Then when I tell her about it she takes the dish back and just altering a few things and bring back the same dish. Then they still charge me 5 bucks extra because they will still charge me the price of the dish which the waiter got me - not what I ordered. Then they do not honor a coupon as the waiter forgets to take the coupon along with the bill. Then finally when I argue they say they can do nothing about it and the manager does not even have the courtesy to come out an apologize. What remark I get- guess what ? The owner does not like confrontations. I would ask all Indiana students to think twice before going to this restaurant.
A rip off restaurant. I would suggest the owner close the restaurant as they have no idea how to run it. [09 Aug 2007 18:02:02]

Overpriced and inauthentic Sure, it's in a cute little house, but the food and the service leave a lot to be desired. The nicest part about this place was that there was a lot of room between the tables: a good place for intimate conversation. Waitstaff appeared only about once every 45 minutes: not frequently enough. Pasta was lackluster and overcooked, and the sauces were not fresh-tasting. The bread was spongy and uninteresting. Altogether, the atmosphere was fine, but the food was definitely not worth the price. [12 Sep 2007 21:15:47]

Existing on reputation alone A number of people have told me they love this place, but never seem to go there. It must have been good at some time in the distant past because it is overpriced and self-important now. Eighteen-dollar ravioli entree consists of four ravioli which tasted like olive garden fare (nothing special). Haven't been there lately, but don't feel I'm missing out. If Bloomington ever opens an authentic Italian place that doesn't rip you off (not Deangelos) it will put the rest to shame. [25 Mar 2008 22:42:27]
